From America 250 to America 300: Nevada Day Launches a 50-Year Time Capsule

This Fourth of July, Nevada Day, Inc. is inviting the entire Silver State to take part in something that won't be finished in our lifetime — but will mean everything to the generation that comes after us.

Starting July 4, 2026, we're opening the doors on the Nevada Day Parade 50-Year Time Capsule Initiative, a community-wide project that will stay open through Nevada Day on October 31, 2026. After that, it will be ceremonially sealed for the next fifty years, right at the Nevada Day Parade, and won't be opened again until 2076 — the year America turns 300.

That timing isn't an accident. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the United States. Fifty years from now, when the capsule is finally opened, the nation will be celebrating its 300th. We wanted to build something that connects those two milestones — a way for the Nevadans of today to speak directly to the Nevadans of tomorrow.

What We're Collecting

We're asking Nevadans — and the businesses, schools, veterans, and organizations that make up our communities — to contribute photographs, artwork, letters, memorabilia, and digital memories that capture what it feels like to be part of Nevada right now, in 2026.

The Nevada Day Parade has celebrated our state's history and pioneering spirit for more than eight decades. This time capsule is simply the next chapter of that tradition — except this time, we're writing it for people we'll never meet.

How to Take Part

There's a way for just about everyone to be part of this:

Premier Sponsors of the Nevada Day Parade

Will each receive their own dedicated time capsule box to fill with documents, photographs, and materials marking their support of the tradition. Interested in becoming a Premier Sponsor? Apply at nevadaday.com/sponsors.

Businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, museums, faith-based groups, and civic organizations

That aren't already sponsors can join through the "Friends of the Nevada Day Parade" package — a flat $250 that includes a dedicated envelope for photos, letters, promotional items, and other keepsakes documenting their history and service. To take part, register and pay here, then stop by the Nevada Day Gift Shop to pick up your envelope. Filled envelopes must be dropped back off no later than October 16, 2026.

Veterans organizations and school classrooms

Can participate completely free, submitting artwork, written messages, and materials that reflect their service or their hopes for Nevada's future.

Members of the public can join in:

• Download the Nevada Day Parade mobile app and respond to the featured time capsule prompt.

• Then bring photos and documents in person to the Nevada Day Gift Shop, 508 N Curry St, Carson City — on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — where our staff will digitize your materials for inclusion in the capsule.

• Can't make it to the Gift Shop? No problem. You can upload your photos or files directly through the Nevada Day app, using the Time Capsule form — it only takes a couple of minutes, and you can do it from anywhere.

  
  

A formal proclamation recognizing the initiative is expected from Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell, officially marking July 4, 2026, as the start of the time capsule collection period.

Why It Matters

"This time capsule is our way of making sure the people who gather in 2076 know who we were, what we valued, and how much we loved this community, our state, and our country," says the Nevada Day Parade Board of Directors. "Every letter, photo, and piece of artwork we collect becomes a bridge across fifty years."

Fifty years is a long time. Long enough that most of us won't be there when it's opened. But that's exactly the point — this is a gift we're making for people who aren't born yet, so they'll know exactly who came before them.
