Judi Klindt, Grand Marshal for the 1984 Nevada Day Parade, was born and raised in California and attended various schools in California. She worked in the aircraft industry during World War II and then in various businesses. In 1970, she and her husband, Duke, moved to Eureka, Nevada and after falling in love with the small town and with Nevada, became permanent residents. Judi's background in community volunteering is very impressive. While in the State of California, she was a member of the Arts and Culture Commission in La Mirada; member of the Directors of the Little Theater Group; President of the PTA; Chairman of the American Field Service; La Mirada Woman of the Year; City of Hope volunteer; and was instrumental in providing shelter and homes for troubled teenagers. After her move to Eureka, Judi again gave of her own time to volunteer. In Eureka she helped start a community Emergency Medical Technician Training Program; helped begin the County Volunteer Ambulance Service; spent about 48 hours a week as an attendant on the ambulance; was instrumental in obtaining a grant for a new ambulance; taught in several 81 hour EMT courses conducted in Eureka; performed ambulance duty at rodeos and high school sporting events; taught CPR to Eureka High School students; was Chairman of the Eureka County Medical Services Council; was a member of the Northern Nevada EMS Council; had many years of service on the Eureka Planning Commission; assisted in getting downtown Eureka on the National Register of Historical sites; was Vice Chairman of the Friends of the Library; helped start the Eureka Senior Citizen Program; and was scorekeeper for the Eureka softball games. In service for the State of Nevada, Judi was a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Nevada Health Systems Agency; a member of the State Health Coordinating Council; and member of the Governor's Special Commission on Health Costs Containment. |
