About the same time Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864, American carnivals were coming into their own. And the addition of the Nevada Day RSVP Carnival brought additional family fun, excitement and entertainment to the Nevada Day festivities. Carnivals back in that time used crude, wooden man-or horse-powered "ups and downs" - four seated Ferris-wheel-type rides - and merry-go-rounds, plus sideshows and games of chance.
Since that eventful time, both Nevada and carnivals have grown proportionately so that it is fitting that they share the spotlight together for this coming Nevada Day Celebration at Mills Park in Carson City, sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
2010 is the 26th year Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has joined in the Nevada Day festivities and will bring in the well-known Midway Western Amusements Carnival complete with their newest, biggest, and most exciting state-of-the-art rides for four days. Also there will be plenty of kiddy rides for the wee ones.
Come ride the rides, eat, drink, and be merry! Proceeds from the RSVP Nevada Day carnival supports the costs of its programs, including its Home Companion Program, which enables homebound seniors to remain at home rather than in a care facility.
