The contest is open to anyone with a beard and there is no entry fee. Admission is FREE!
The Beard contest will be held on the Capital Steps immediatly following Plaques are awarded in eight categories: longest, fullest, reddest, whitest, blackest, best salt and pepper, best groomed, scruffiest, and most bearded community. Every year Virginia City makes a particularly good showing since they challenged all comers that they could put more bearded men on the Capitol steps than any other community. For the last four years, they have won the "Most Bearded Community" award. The contest is one of the many fun events during the Annual Nevada Day Celebration.
